guttagarden® quick and simple to install. The “green” alternative to cement pavingsystems.
Product description
  • High resistance to compression of the elements (150 ton/m2).
  • Safe anchoring of the foundation thanks to a 3,5 cm high coupling teeth.
  • Honeycombs open on more than one side to allow growth and transversal ramification of the roots, thus providing greater stability to the grass covering.
  • Easy and quick to install thanks to the coupling of one hook into a slot that also becomes a dilation joint.
  • The limited overall surface of the elements compared to the surface of the ground ensures better grass conditions during the summertime.
  • Grass driveway grid for car parks, access routes and driveways

guttagarden® must be laid on a suitably levelled surface.

The paving consists of the following elements:
• the foundation;
• the bedding layer;
• laying of guttagarden®;
• sowing of the grass;
• maintenance.

The foundation

It ensures the transfer of loads generated by the use of the grass paving system. It is usually made with inert materials with suitable grain size. Its characteristics and thickness depend on the characteristics of the soil and on the loads that will bear on guttagarden®.

Foundation for vehicle traffic areas and pedestrian areas

First remove the top layer of soil, then position a layer of guttatex® 400 fabric to make sure the finest parts of the bed are separated from the foundation. The bed is made with inert materials with suitable grain size and thickness (usually 20/40 cm) in relation to the loads that will bear on the grass paving system and on the characteristics of the foundation soil.

The bedding layer

The bed has to consist of a mix of sand or crushed stone with good geomechanical resistance. As for the granularity, use mixed sand with maximum size of 5-7 mm, and 3-6 mm for the crushed stone. The bedding layer must also be properly compacted and levelled. Levelling must never be carried out when the temperature is below 2°C.

Laying guttagarden®

Once the supporting layers have been prepared, you can start laying the grass paving system. guttagarden® has a snap-lock system which secures each sheet to the other. No mechanical tools are needed for the installation, as the individual pieces weigh only 1,2 kg. After completing this phase, cover the entire surface with soil, making sure that the level of the soil at a lower height (0,5 cm) compared to the top edge of the grass paving system. Special attention must be paid at the edges, where the elements must be enclosed by a kerb just like a regular paving with self-locking pieces, making sure you leave about a gap of about 5 cm between the last row and the kerb, to compensate for any shifting. During the summer, it is important to fill in the honeycombs right after the grass paving system is installed, even doing one sector at a time. guttagarden® can be easily cut with a flush saw for the positioning of sumps, tubes, and so on. When laying on slopes, hills or road ditches, be careful to use suitable laying materials, as they must be draining yet stable during the installation and when the paving is actually used. In case of steep slopes, it is recommended to use suitable anchorage systems.

Sowing the grass

In order for the grass to grow as best as possible, the hollow spaces must be filled in with a mixture of 40% sand, 30% peat and 30% potting soil; it is recommended to avoid using fine gravel for filling in said spaces. Before you proceed to filling in the honeycomb-shaped elements, the parking area dividers must be secured, if you wish to mark off the parking spackes. For quick and longlasting growth of the grassy layer, all types of grass resistant to dry spell are specifically recommended. Before sowing, it is advisable to sprinkle plently of water on the flooring. After the sowing is done, proceed to proper fertilization, and water frequently until the grass has completely grown in. At the right humidity levels, the soil used to fill in the empty spaces sinks by about 1-1,15 cm, making room for the grass to grow without being damaged by traffic.

Like any other grassy areas, green floors reinforced with guttagarden® need regular watering, cutting and occasional fertilizations.
